Denver New Liberals Applaud Signing of Legislation to Protect Colorado's Ticket Buyers
Denver, CO – Today, Governor Jared Polis signed HB-24-1378 - Consumer Protection in Event Ticket Sales. The bill, sponsored by Representatives William Lindstedt and Alex Valdez, and Senators Tom Sullivan and Bob Gardner, adheres to many of the principles of the Ticket Buyer’s Bill of Rights, which the Denver New Liberals have been supporting.
In response to Governor Polis signing this legislation, the Denver New Liberals are releasing the following statement from chapter lead Timothy Supplit:
“The failure to go after monopolies in the ticketing platform market has truly hurt consumers – and while we think action needs to be taken to address those monopolies, in the meantime, the next best thing we can do is support pro-consumer legislation to protect ticket buyers in Colorado.
Earlier this year, the Denver New Liberals, in collaboration with our parent organization, the Center for New Liberalism, launched a campaign in support of the Ticket Buyer’s Bill of Rights. That campaign, which included digital ads and texts to voters, reached more than 300,000 voters and received support from Coloradans in more than 30 counties across the state.
This legislation is a massive step in the right direction for Coloradans who want to attend events at any of the great venues in our state, whether it be seeing a concert at Red Rocks, or watching a Nuggets game at Ball Arena, but don’t want to deal with the hidden fees and misleading sales practices that have plagued the live event industry. We are grateful to all the sponsors of this bill for helping get this legislation through the legislature, and we would like to extend our thanks to Governor Polis for signing this bill today.”
